Karan Anshuman
Karan Anshuman (b 1980) is an Indian film writer, director, and producer. He is best known as the creator and director of Emmy-nominated drama Inside Edge. He is also the creator, director, and writer of Mirzapur and the director and writer of Bangistan, his directorial debut.
After being raised and schooled in Mumbai, Anshuman went to the United States to pursue an an undergrad degree in computer science. It was an epiphany in a math class that he had, realizing quite suddenly (but to no surprise to those who knew him), that he had no idea of what he was doing in a math class. He tried varied subjects from astronomy to art history before deciding to seek a film major. A coming-of-age moment, if you will. Like The Graduate, except literally and without the sex.
Next, he was back in Bombay participating in this new quiet revolution taking place called "digital cinema". His first short Bhaichara was invited to the Berlinale Shorts Workshop. He worked with Saeed MIrza on multiple projects, directed ads, and wrote for television,
Before signing up as a director with Excel Entertainment for Bangistan starring Riteish Deshmukh and Pulkit Samrat, Karan was the film critic for Mumbai Mirror for an eventful 3 years, watching and writing on every film release. A
Along with Excel and Amazon Prime as the platform, he pioneered the first major mainstream web-based show, Inside Edge starring Richa Chadha and Vivek Oberoi. In the wake of its the tremendous success and its renewal, Anshuman went to become the showrunner for Mirzapur starring Ali Fazal and Pankaj Tripathi.
