Zarema

Zarema is an American singer-songwriter and actress of Crimean Tatar decent. She was born in exile in Uzbekistan where ethnic Crimean Tatars had been deported from their native land of Crimea as part of the USSR's 1944 ethic cleansing (recognized by the Ukrainian government in 2015 as genocide). In 1989 Crimean Tatars were allowed to return to their homeland after 45 years in exile and Zarema's family returned to Crimea. Zarema started writing lyrics at the age of 8. At age 10 she recorded her first songs and played them during her first radio interview. Her lyrics were subsequently published in prominent Crimean Tatar newspapers and magazines and at age 13 her first song video was played on Crimean National Television. Zarema studied at the National University of Theater, Film and Television in Kiev, Ukraine, receiving a bachelor degree in acting for dramatic theater and film. Fluent in Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Crimean Tatar, and English, Zarema wrote her first album in Turkish in late 2007, signing and releasing it with Sony BMG Music Entertainment Turkey. Her music video "Atak" reached number one on many television channels, including Kral TV. Genc TV, MTV, Number One TV, Viva! TV and it became the first video in Turkey to exceed 400,000 Youtube views. Zarema's music gained significant media attention and she was featured in numerous newspapers and magazines, appearing on the cover of such publications as Hurriyet, Milliyet, Sabah, Vatan, Takvim, etc. In addition, in promoting her album, she performed concerts in many well-known venues around the world. In 2008 Zarema moved to Los Angeles and became a member of AFTRA in 2009 and SAG in 2010. She studied at Stella Adler Acting Academy and also with various notable acting coaches. Then in 2012, Zarema became a US citizen. In 2018 she released the English language single "Night Of My LIfe", co-written and produced by multiple Grammy winning producer RedOne. The song was released on various record labels in Europe.
