Ashwin Saravanan
Ashwin Saravanan is an Indian short story writer and film director. He was inspired by filmmakers from the early 2010s, like Karthik Subbaraj, Balaji Mohan, and Nalan Kumarasamy. Saravanan quit his job in the IT industry to pursue his career in film.
Saravanan has predominantly directed Tamil-language movies. The neo-noir horror thriller Maya (2015), starring Nayanthara, was well-received by audiences and critics, marking his directorial debut.
In 2017, Saravanan began production on the suspense film Iravaakaalam, starring S.J. Suryah and Wamiqa Gabbi. Despite completing the movie's production, it has not been released publicly. In another such instance, Saravanan began pre-production on a film starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, but after a year of planning, they could not begin principal photography.
However, Saravanan eventually earned widespread acclaim for his Tamil and Telugu psychological thriller Game Over (2019), which he wrote and directed, starring Taapsee Pannu. The film, distributed by YNOT Studios, grossed Rs 15.91 crore at the box office. Saravanan was nominated for the Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards for Best Story and Best Screenplay for Game Over (2019). Taapsee Pannu won the award for best actress for her role in the movie.
The horror thriller Connect (2022), directed by Saravanan, and starring Sathyaraj, Nayanthara, and Anupam Kher, was his one of the most exciting films. He wrote the script for the movie during the COVID-19 lockdown in India and incorporated some of the fear he had experienced into the story. After being presented with the idea for the movie, Nayanthara, who plays the lead role in the film, agreed to serve as the film's producer.
